Medullary Thyroid Cancer & MEN2 Registry

The UCSF endocrine Surgery team, including Dr. Julie Ann Sosa, Dr. Jessica Gosnell, and Dr Sanziana Roman are recruiting for an ongoing research study.

About the study:

The purpose of this study is to support future studies aimed at factors that might increase or decrease the risk of developing cancer, be used as tests for early cancer detection, or affect patient care. Our blood and tissue bank will serve as a resource that will allow these future studies to be developed.

Who is eligible for this study?

We are interested in enrolling people from all ages and all disease phases who meet the following criteria:

People with confirmed or suspected diagnosis of Medullary Thyroid Carcinoma, either hereditary or sporadic.
People from families with a confirmed or suspected diagnosis of Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia 2A or 2B (MEN2, MEN2B) or Familial Medullary Thyroid Cancer (FMTC)

What’s involved?

The initial study enrollment involves a saliva sample (in person at UCSF or by mail), a series of questionnaires to be completed online, and an optional blood draw for patients being seen by a provider at UCSF. The questionnaires will be repeated up to four times a year for the duration of the study, which may go on indefinitely.

Participating in research is voluntary. It won’t affect your treatment at UCSF if you decide not to call about the study or decide not to participate.
